Pukalani
is located in the Maui Upcountry, just minutes from the North Shore beaches. A 10,000-foot mountain sits in the middle of the island of Maui, and along its' slopes are flower farms, wineries, emerald green pastures and even a California redwood grove. A stay in Pukalani, or any of the small Upcountry villages, is usually more affordable and less crowded than the busy beach resorts below. This is rural farm country, peaceful and quiet, with panoramic views and cool tropical nights - yet you're just 30 to 40 minutes away from all the attractions of the sunny, west Maui coast. Pukalani is home to a par 72, 6,962-yard golf course that is more reasonably priced than the resorts' high greens fees. The facilities include club and shoe rentals, a pro shop, and restaurant, practice areas and lockers. The nearby Haleakala National Park offers camping and swimming, hiking and horseback riding. The town of Makawao, which is just minutes from Pukalani, is home to many local artists and has shopping boutiques and art galleries and many fine restaurants.

The sunny north/northwestern region of Maui has moderate rainfall during the year, with most of it occurring between October and March. Occasionally an entire month during the dry season will go by with no measurable precipitation. The normal trade winds, accentuated by the funneling effect between Haleakala and the West Maui mountains, as well as by the daytime low pressure in the valley, often attain a speed of 40 to 45 mph at the airport, but serve to make living conditions in the nearby Kahului-Wailuku community pleasant and comfortable. Humidity at Kahului is usually moderate to high, with wet season humidity averaging slightly higher than in the dry season. However, due to the system of natural ventilation provided by the prevailing winds, the weather is seldom oppressive even during the warmer months of the year.
