Huelo
is located on the north shore of Maui, and is often described as "an old Hawaiian village forgotten by time." Overlooked by many on the road to the better known town of Hana, Huelo is where the ocean is wild and waves pummel soaring lava cliffs. It is serene and beautiful here - a Hawaii of an earlier time. The Waipo and Hoalua Bays, where you'll find beaches for sunning, swimming, surfing and snorkeling surround Huelo. Just 15 minutes away is Hookipa Beach, home of the famous windsurfing "Aloha Classic." Other activities near Huelo include hiking, horseback riding and exploring the coastal towns of Paia and Makawao. While in Huelo, visit the historic Kaulanapueo Church, built in 1853 in New England style architecture. The fertile area of Huelo was once home to 75,000, but today only a few hundred live in this peaceful village. You will find beautiful bed and breakfasts here, along with other fine vacation rentals. Huelo is a quiet place of relaxation, away from the hustle and bustle of the other side of the island. Be one of the few to discover this exquisite, hidden tropical paradise on Maui's north shore.

The sunny north/northwestern region of Maui has moderate rainfall during the year, with most of it occurring between October and March. Occasionally an entire month during the dry season will go by with no measurable precipitation. The normal trade winds, accentuated by the funneling effect between Haleakala and the West Maui mountains, as well as by the daytime low pressure in the valley, often attain a speed of 40 to 45 mph at the airport, but serve to make living conditions in the nearby Kahului-Wailuku community pleasant and comfortable. Humidity at Kahului is usually moderate to high, with wet season humidity averaging slightly higher than in the dry season. However, due to the system of natural ventilation provided by the prevailing winds, the weather is seldom oppressive even during the warmer months of the year.
