Kula
is located in what is known as "Upcountry" along the slopes of Haleakala Mountain in north Maui. The slopes of the 10,000 foot mountain, which sits in the middle of Maui, is home to cowboys and farmers who are the type of people who wave back as you pass by. At the center of this rural upland is the town of Kula. Kula is a refreshing change of pace from the busy beaches and resorts below, with crisp mountain air, emerald pastures, eucalyptus, flower and vegetable farms. Things to do include visiting the Enchanted Floral Gardens, which is an eight-acre garden paradise, open daily for tours. You will walk along paved paths of over 1,500 different flowers, herbs, plants and trees. The Kula Botanical Gardens is also a lovely place to visit, with winding paths through tropical plants and flowers, streams and ponds. Of historical interest is the Holy Ghost Church, built in 1894 and features a beautifully hand-carved interior. With warm days and cool nights, Kula offers true peace and quiet in rural farm country, just 40 minutes from the beach.

The island of Maui has both rain forest and desert conditions. The southwest side receives only 12 inches of rain, mostly during the winter months, and the east side receives approximately 90 inches per year. Mountain regions may get over 300 inches. The constant breezes keep Maui's temperature very comfortable. Trade winds are nearly always calm in the morning hours. Kona winds come from the opposite direction of trade winds and usually indicate that a rainstorm will soon arrive. Maui is known for its many rainbows, which usually occur in early morning or late afternoon, depending on wind direction and wind speed. Severe weather such as tsunamis and hurricanes are possible but rare on the Hawaiian Islands. The southwestern side is considered the sunniest, driest region of Maui.
