Haiku is a small, rural community on the north shore of Maui, in what is considered "Upcountry" on the island. The village of Haiku has a town center with shops, grocery store, pharmacy, etc., and it is just minutes from the towns of Makawao and Paia, which also offer great restaurants and shopping. Being in the "upcountry," Haiku has no beaches within walking distance, but is just mere minutes to the north shores of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena beaches. Haiku is also just a five minute drive from the world famous Ho'okipa windsurfing beach, one of the best places on the island for windsurfing! Other activities available in the area include swimming, surfing, horseback riding, biking, golf and helicopter rides. Surrounded by lush tropical jungle, the town of Haiku is near Halehaku Bay, and many secluded hiking trails and walking paths. Haiku is just far enough away from the crowds to offer privacy, yet is close enough to all the attractions and activities to make it convenient. So, if you're looking for affordable accommodations and a place to enjoy the peace and quiet beauty of Maui, you'll enjoy staying at Haiku.

Haiku Weather & Climate

The sunny  north/northwestern region of Maui has moderate rainfall during the year, with most of it occurring between October and March. Occasionally an entire month during the dry season will go by with no measurable precipitation. The normal trade winds, accentuated by the funneling effect between Haleakala and the West Maui mountains, as well as by the daytime low pressure in the valley, often attain a speed of 40 to 45 mph at the airport, but serve to make living conditions in the nearby Kahului-Wailuku community pleasant and comfortable. Humidity at Kahului is usually moderate to high, with wet season humidity averaging slightly higher than in the dry season. However, due to the system of natural ventilation provided by the prevailing winds, the weather is seldom oppressive even during the warmer months of the year.
