Wainiha
is nestled on the lush northern coast of Kauai near Tunnels Beach. This area affords spectacular views of the Wainiha River and the Wainiha Valley, and it's just minutes to several beautiful beaches, including Wainiha Bay, Ke'e Beach and famous, crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay. This is a very interesting area where legend has it that the sea caves were formed by the fire goddess Pele's search for a new home. This is also where you will find the trailhead for the only land route to the beautiful Na Pali Coast. Nearby Haena is an ancient Hawaiian district, a place of magnificent natural beauty with a four-mile long coast with lagoons, bays, wonderful beaches and the only resort on the north shore. Several movie stars and musicians have homes in the area. Other points of interest in the Wainiha Valley area include the Waioli Mission House, built in 1837, the Waioli Mission Hall and the picturesque Waioli Huiia Church. There are five botanical gardens located nearby, including beautiful Limahula Garden where visitors can enjoy 17 acres of gardens and rain forest, and rare native plants. Recreational activities in or near Wainiha include snorkeling, boat excursions, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, windsurfing, hiking, biking and golf.

The North Coast of Kauai with its huge areas of tropical forest, picturesque coastline, green mountains and cascading waterfalls is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Plenty of rainfall helps keep it this way, although on Kauai, the forecast is usually rain at night or early morning, followed by warm, sunny days. Kauai's climate varies according to location, with the northern part of the island being the rainiest. Mount Waialeale is known as the wettest spot on earth, with approximately 486 inches of rain per year. By comparison, the southwestern part of the island is dry. Kauai has the warm temperatures typical of Hawaii year-round, with no more than a 7 or 8 degree difference between summer and winter, and the northwesterly trade winds keep the warm temperatures from becoming too oppressive.
