Ahuimanu
, which means "rain forest," is a town of approximately 8,500 located on the eastern (windward) shore of Oahu. Located near the Waiahole Forest Reserve, this area has incredible views of the Koolau Mountains, which were featured in the movie, "Jurassic Park." Ahuimanu is centrally located on the island of Oahu, only thirty minutes to Pearl Harbor and Honolulu and approximately twenty minutes to the beaches of Waikiki. Recreational activities in the area include swimming, snorkeling, surfing, boating, sailing, hiking, horseback riding, parasailing, bicycling and sightseeing. Some of the attractions in the area include the Bishop Museum, the Valley of the Temples, the Polynesian Cultural Center, Sea Life Park, the Haiku Gardens, Kaneohe Beach Park and Kualoa Regional Park. The lush scenery of the Ahuimanu region is breathtaking - especially after a rain. At that time, countless waterfalls tumble down the face of the 3000-foot sheer walls of the pali - creating a spectacular sight. After a day of hiking the rainforest, you can retire to the peace and tranquility of Ahuimanu, or if you're in the mood for a little more excitement - the nightlife of Waikiki and Honolulu is just a short drive away.

Ahuimanu Weather & Climate

The tropical climate of the southeastern "windward" side of Oahu sees variations in rainfall and elevation within short distances on the island. The southern side of the island, near Honolulu and Waikiki Beach receives less rainfall than the north/northeastern sides. There are two mountain ranges that influence the climate of Oahu - both serve to block trade wind moisture from reaching the south and southwestern sides of the island, thus resulting in the drier climate. In the Waikiki area, yearly rainfall is 25 inches (with most of that occurring in November through March, except for the occasional thunderstorm on summer afternoons.) Compare this to Manoa Valley, which is just a few miles away in the mountains, and receives 158 inches. Overall, Oahu enjoys warm, balmy weather year round, with moderate humidity and no extremes. Even winter storms tend to be quick and occur mostly in the evenings.
