Makaweli
is a small village located near the resort town of Poipu Beach and the historic town of Waimea. The gorgeous Napali Coast is also just a short drive away. This is a lush, colorful area full of "Old Hawaii" charm, yet near all the major attractions of the island. Just some of the outdoor activities to enjoy during your stay at Makaweli includes swimming, snorkeling, diving, hiking, biking, horseback riding, surfing, fishing and boating and golf. The island of Kauai is just 32 miles in diameter, roughly circular in shape and 550 square miles in total area - small enough to easily enjoy sightseeing the entire island from your base destination of Makaweli. Known as Hawaii's Garden Island due to its' enchanting beauty of emerald green mountains and cascading waterfalls lined with wildflowers, Kauai offers relaxation and a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of some of the other islands. Nearby Poipu Beach Park is known for its' safe, family oriented beaches and recreational activities. There are grassy areas with playground equipment and a small, well-protected cove that is perfect for small children. Also near Makaweli, Brennecke's Beach is famous for its' boogie boarding and is well known as the "Body Surfing Capital of Hawaii."

Makaweli Weather & Climate
Southwestern Kauai is the sunniest, driest part of the island. The northern part around Hanalei is the rainiest. With warm, gentle temperatures and cooling tradewinds, the climate on Kauai is never too hot or oppressive. The biggest contrast in the weather is the difference in the amount of rainfall between the rainy season of winter (October through March,) and the dry summer season (April through September.) There is very little variation in temperature, except in higher elevations where it is cooler year round. Overall, you will find more variation in temperature with location, rather than season. On the island of Kauai, the waters are calmer in the summers and the tradewinds blow more frequently. Storms such as hurricanes are infrequent, although the threat does exist.
