Kahului
is on the west coast of Maui near the Pacific Ocean and the West Maui Forest Reserve. Maui's principal airport is located in Kahului, and it's also the site of the only deep water port on the island. A few of the sites to see in Kahului include the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum, the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, the Kanaka Pond Waterfowl Sanctuary, and the Kanaha Wildlife Sanctuary. Kahului is also home to Maui's largest shopping mall with plenty of shops, restaurants and a cinema, and Maui's newest shopping complex, the Maui Marketplace can also be found here. For outdoor fun, Kanaha Beach County Park is located just a quarter of a mile from the airport. It has a picnic area, swimming, and its warm waters and light onshore breezes make it a popular place for windsurfing. Kahului has a good central location to explore the rest of the island. Just a short drive takes you to all the scenic northwest coast beaches and snorkeling, boating, fishing excursions, sailing, hiking, golf and much more.

The sunny north/northwestern region of Maui has moderate rainfall during the year, with most of it occurring between October and March. Occasionally an entire month during the dry season will go by with no measurable precipitation. The normal trade winds, accentuated by the funneling effect between Haleakala and the West Maui mountains, as well as by the daytime low pressure in the valley, often attain a speed of 40 to 45 mph at the airport, but serve to make living conditions in the nearby Kahului-Wailuku community pleasant and comfortable. Humidity at Kahului is usually moderate to high, with wet season humidity averaging slightly higher than in the dry season. However, due to the system of natural ventilation provided by the prevailing winds, the weather is seldom oppressive even during the warmer months of the year.
